Rear window pillar dents. Photos please

Postby Red Leader » 25 Sep 2009, 17:17

If any members have suffered dents in the rear roof pillars for no apparent reason please could you post photos here in this thread which will help others seeking evidence that this is not an owner generated fault.

Might be worth noting that these dents in theory should be half way up the flanks of the panels that when closed enclose the rear window.. Thats where mine was..

Hi

I m from Singapore. I have 2 similar incidents. I thought someone dented my car. send backt o OPEL for repairs as dents.

They did not say anything except vandalism .

First incident April 09 left side ( taken pics, repaired by OPEL)
2nd Incident Sept 09 Right side ( no pics taken, repaired by OPEL)

After joining this site, I found similar incodents, so I email to OPEL, now they are looking at it.

This is a photo of my dents. I am about to do battle with Vauxhall as I was told by dealer yesterday that roof warranty is for one year only. My car is 2 years old but has only 6600 miles on the clock. The dealer contacted Vauxhall who refused to do anything. He has seen 3 cars all with the same dents in the same place.

Ouch! They don't look like they have been 'pulled' from the inside which negates one theory. Are you positive there was nothing in the boot?

The only thing that was in the boot was an umbrella. I rarely use the car and the roof even less. It has only been used maybe a dozen times in 2 years as I live just north of Newcastle on Tyne and last summer I think we managed one day with the roof down. I thought my car had been vandalized until I went to a Ladies night at the dealership. The chief mechanic who was showing me how to top up levels sand change a tyre spotted the dents and remarked that this was the third TT he had seen like this. One had dents on both rear pillars. It appears to be the 07 batch that is affected. Mine certainly had a manufacturers recall on the roof and has not been the same since as it usually jams now where it didn't before.

ttlady - received your email... Mine was similar to that - the dealership guessed the valuator had left something in the boot when he was cleaning it and just opened the roof - Poooow Dent... - They just replaced the panel - no questions.. It was on the the passengers side.. If that helps>?<

I too was perplexed by the roof dents but then a kind neighbour handed me these photos which he had taken while we were on holiday and the car was out on the road. These explained everything.

By the time we got home from holiday the council had already moved the tree but they didn't even have the courtesy to leave a note on the windscreen.

Bah!

Needless to say we were not covered under warranty.

Sorry no photos but my 2007 TT had dents as you describe on both sides of rear window pillar. Vauxhall authorised body work repair this week. Is damage likely to occur again? Sheila

Re: Rear window pillar dents. Photos please

My personal feeling is that most of these dents are down to the disgaceful state of the UK roads.
I know that the VW EOS (ewww nasty car) doesn't have these problems.
But then again, i calculated spec for spec, if i had bought the equivalent EOS (ewww nasty car), i would have paid an extra £8,000.
After buying my used TT i called into my local dealership and asked their expert about the roof dents.
He came out to the car and tightened two bolts.
Motto.
You get what you pay for and NEVER trust a car dealership.

Hello everybody!

My car is 2007 TT and don't have any dents, for this moment. The roads are very poor in Galician (Spain) and I usually goes with the roof down in summer. I hope don't have any dents in the future.

I had a dent appear on my old model (56) assumed it had been caused by an umbrella in the boot. So got my son, who runs a paint less dent removal business to remove it. He did and you could not see that it had ever been there.

I have just joined the site today - bizarrely wanting to find out info about the spare wheel, or lack of one! I bought my 2009 Twintop Sport secondhand a few weeks ago - the private seller did point out a small dent in the driver's side rear window/roof strut at the time, but I have since noticed a "double" dent has now appeared on the passenger side rear strut. I had no idea how this occurred - I had not even opened the roof!! I had just assumed something had fallen onto the car and dented it . . . . I am therefore amazed to read of so many others suffering the same problem - if I had nothing in the the boot and not even opened the roof, how can these additional dents have occured? I am going to take pics and post on here. Having bought the car privately, it is still under 3 years old, can I still go back to a Vauxhall dealer to investigate the complaint under warranty or does that expire upon change of owner? If anyone has meanwhile had any positive results with these dents I would very much like to hear about it.

Any feedback on a response?

Im buying a second hand 08 plate Astra TT next week (via Network Q) and will be checking this area for dents before purchase, just wondered what I should do if I ever end up seeing these in the future, do they fall under the 100,000 mile warranty offered by Network Q?

If it helps at all, I attach pics of my dents - a smaller one on the driver's side, and a "double" dent on the passenger side. Am looking to get some quotes for paintless dent removal, but am loathed to pay out if it is considered a design/mechanism fault which could re-occur.

Any further update/thoughts welcome.

Lissco, they are nasty :(

I picked up my 08 plate twintop this week, it doesn't have these dents (YET!)

But will be keeping an eye on them, all the photos on this post seem to have identical dents in the same place, if it is someone leaving an obstruction in the boot then its weird how everyones seem to be in the same place.

Has anyone got vauxhall to admit this is a design fault?

Think we just need to keep gathering as many photos as possible in this thread for now

By the same token, has anyone had their TT for a while now and NOT had these dents? it would be nice to know if people don't suffer from it and see what the common factor is for these people
